Instead of Z spokes....
« on: January 14, 2011, 06:37:33 AM »
My z spokes are crusty rusty, most of the nipples are stuck and short of having buchannans make new z spokes $$$, Has anyone mounted up wheels off the 82-83 IT 175? They sure do look the same.

Hey Pete,

I tried to put my IT175G rear wheel on my IT200L to see  if it would fit, It doesn't. So I didn't bother trying the front so 1980/81 won't fit as they are too wide.

Cheers

I though Buchannons price was reasonable... you can mod the hub and fit std spokes too.

Do you have any pics of this mod or how its done? Sure would like to ditch the crap set on my IT200 and YZ too.

I can do some pics, there are different ways to do it, but if you have the lugs onthe hub, then they are welded and new oles drilled from std spokes. I had 2 rims done 1 that way which is good, and 1 done by grinding those lugs off and drilling through the hub below the brake lining, it looks like the other side of the hub from the otside, but this way sucks as my wheel builder found out, as you cannot get the offset right, the spokes lean out toward the wheel as opposed to in. I still dont have that wheel back from the builder having to purchase a new hub (at his expense) and rebuilt after finding the offset wrong, now been over 3 months since I took 2 sets of wheels to be rebuilt....
