I just sold a KDX200 '89 model. Looked good but was the biggest heap of junk and waste of money I've owned. Never want another Kawasaki. My IT200 would kick it's butt easily. The yammie is a way better bike.

Go the 2 hundie IT ;D ;D,
Good read thank's Muzz.
I can remember when Kawasaki brought out the 200 in 83,we were riding IT 175's.The KDX boys always had the legs on us,esp at the beach races or fast wide open tracks.
We couldn't get our hands on the 84 IT200 fast enough, after that they were done ;D ;D
Cheers,
Steve.

Nice article and pretty true from memory. I dumped the PE175T & DR250Z for a KDX200 in 1984 and raced it all year on the NZ club circuit.
It had the power on everyone in the under 200 enduro class for sure. PE's and XR's had no chance in a drag or big hill climbs etc.
But I remember thinking the IT200L was pretty good and when we swapped in the fun races I preferred the IT's front end to my KDX.
The KDX's forks were a bit harsh from memory, and its front brake wasn't all that great either! So I'm glad I've got an IT200L in my frail dotage!
Cranky old git!
