I don't understand, brand new barrel, rings, piston, exhaust (that's right, BRAND NEW EXHAUST), exhaust gasket and it still leaks dirty oily black goo all over the engine.

Can I seal it up?

my 200 used to leak out of the silencer...i changed my oil(castrol R30) and now use STHILL chainsaw premix at 50:1 ..I'm not recommending 50:1 but now my bike runs clean...no oil discharge

i know you can reduce leakage from the front (header end)...loosen all the bolts that fasten the exhaust ... preferably new exhaust springs..hold the header end of the pipe hard up into barrel...then tighten bolts ...can be tricky with one person

so with a new gasket and new springs push the header hard up into the barrel..make sure it sits flush..then tighten other bolts ...hope i have explained this easily enough... you will see results if done right

cheers Corey

The "splooge" is a result of a rich condition. Go through the jetting procedure and the black stuff will typically go away and the responsiveness and crispness will increase. This is messy, but I feel that a slight rich condition is prefered for the first couple of hours on a new engine. There will undoubtedly be opposing views expressed, but it is seldom seen that new mechanical parts suffer from too much lubrication Grin Grin After initial breakin, a thorough rejetting results in a "splooge free" condition. Where people get into trouble is adding more oil to the mix and not installing a richer jet to make up for the extra oil resulting in a lean condition. I have seen harm come from that Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have had fair results with the Permatex orange or copper high temp sealants. Another old trick is to soak a cardboard gasket in water (for a bolt together flange) for a couple of hours prior to assembly. This seems to soften the fibers enough to compress for a good seal.

I hope this helps,
Rick

I have been using ' Permatex ULTRA COPPER ' for the last few Years and now use nothing else on the exhaust manifolds of two strokes.

I wish I had known about it in 1981 !!
