Hi all
New to the site.  I have a 1978 YZ 125E.   Some pictures, as i brought it.  I am at the moment collecting the parts i need for a Rebuild - Restoration.    I got this one to restore, cause i had one i used to ride back in 1979.  They were the goods then!
Link to my Resto Blog.

   Welcome to the forum wiseman.

Nice YZ125E. I like the headlamp.
My YZ125E is using an IT175E stator and lighting coil, and I want to fit lights front and rear at some point.

Look forward to more info on the project.

Thanks all. And what a great website and forum.  I have lots of questions to ask, and will try and post in the correct sections.
I did buy the IT 175 to restore as well, but just did not have the room.  I sold it last week on E Bay for $600, same as i paid.

To the other guys commenting on the headlight, it was on there when i brought the bike,  it does not work, cause the YZ does not have a lighting coil. The last owner wanted that 'enduro' look i guess. It also had a 'IT style' tool bag on the rear gaurd.

Anyone wanting to buy that headlamp plate, let me know.  i dont need it, as i have an original 'oval' plate to put on.

I may also sell the alloy muffler, as i have the original one for it.

I am a huge fan of old IT and YZ bikes.    Next i want the "BIG BORE"   465 or 490 to experience that 'arm ripping power band'

Cheers

  I like the enduro look YZ125E !

Fitting an IT175E stator and flywheel fools the engine into giving some low end power. It's a bit like an IT125 but with more top end.

Is that an original YZ125E front pipe ?

What are you going to do with the bike when it finished ?

Here is the ' before ' photo taken at the sellers barn !

Did have some others but photobucket has just stopped working for me !

EDIT : Logged out and logged in and their were 3 copies of the photo !!

Stripped off some of the plastics ready to sell the bike. Tried selling on eBay starting at £35.00 then dropped it down to £14.99 and  still no one bid for it.

It was then that I decided to build a ' special ' out of it. All the mods call be easily removed and the bike put back to standard.

Hey Dave
Yes that is the Original front pipe, expansion chamber.  It's in excellent condition, just a couple of "very minor stone dents" in the front.
When the bike gets finished, i will probley sell it, and buy another to restore.
This one is in fairly good shape as i got it.  So it really dosnt need much work.  Bore is on first oversize, with good compression.
Gears are good,  clutch is a bit 'sticky'.

I like the look of 'Road Tyres' on your YZ,   and will probley fit similar to mine, if i can source a smaller rear sprocket.
When finished, this will be a diplay bike, after i ride her once, on the tar. I live in a remote area, and can ride on tar road unreg.
It will end up being sold.  But not sure as a Dirt, or Road racer.

Im working on my tank at the moment, trying to get it back to white.

Nice job on your YZ.   Smiley

YZ125Es are really great bikes - but they get overlooked because of the VMX racing class structure (basically, they're not legal for pre-78 and outclassed in Evo).
Mine's a bit of a pooh-box, but its still a bundle of fun becasue they're easy to ride fast - I've got a 125D that's in much better condition, but its a lot slower and less fun.
