Gegetofsky helped me find a good tailpipe for the 175, it is quite blocked with carbon, would an oven cleaning product work, any ideas?

Get an oxy down it and burn the stuff out or something that I haven't heard suggested but might work is caustic soda I have used that with dad cleaning 20 30 year old grease etc etc off of stoves it strips that sort of stuff right up especially if the water is hot that would be worth a try??

Caustic does work , block one end of muffler ,I used a potato . Prop up muffler securely ,fill with water, empty water into a bucket , add 1kg caustic crystals , pour back into muffler , muffler will get hot ,leave 24 hours then rinse out until clear , knock with a rubber hammer to release any loosened bits. Potato may leak a bit , do this somewhere like waste ground and wear gloves , if you get the caustic on you wash immediately.

Heat it up cherry with the oxy, then stuff an air blower nozzle up its bum. The carbon should make your cherry ring self sustaining the full length of the pipe.
Make sure your neighbours are away for the day and have no washing on the line. The smoke and all the hot bits of carbon flying out the exhaust could be considered a little offensive.
Not sure how you would clean out the 'canister' part of the muffler. Not sure if that hot thing would work on it.
Perhaps the caustic is the go.
Bob.

I tried cleaning out that IT175J tail pipe you gave me with caustic. I boiled it in a strong mixture for about 5 hours and left it in the liquid for about 24 hours in all. It was still rather blocked, so I reluctantly had to resort to the rodeobob method. Smoked out the workshop and had to open all the windows and doors to clear it before the Factory manager came in.
Nice smell though !!

I ate out last night. Even on our moderate income we manage to eat meat, veg and fruit. As yet we have not been reduced to consuming metalic objects !! Dave R
