Rather than paint the pipe try a bit of scotchbrite and some WD40 CRC or similar.
Just go over it after every wash with some WD40 on a rag.


It might smell up a bit when the pipe gets hot.


You could try some sort of soap based stuff, not sure if that would protect it.
