Gidday Dyna, you got pics of your 490?

a big bore IT should look good in motard trim.. there's a few ways of doing it depending on how deep your pockets are... one way is straight swap of sportsbike wheels or wheels from something modern.. or you can have custom rims laced up.. if you use 18" front you can save on getting the back done.. and 18's do look pretty good.

will you be changing the forks and brakes too?

Cheers!

gearing is any choice

16 tooth front and 42 tooth rear give a good road gearing

also you need to tune the crap it powerplant (it only pumps out  34 bhp)

a porting by someone who knows what they are doing (fast road spec)

a carb 41.5 mm keihan carb kit (see ebay)

http://cgi...ccessories

boost your power up to 75 bhp plus !

I am putting a YZ 490 engine into a cagiva mito frame.........weight of bike with fuel 90Kg

18" rims look so much better than 17" items.

Dyna, go in and mod your Profile so it tells us where your at.

Where are you???

Is the bike going to be dedicated road bike or swap the wheels and hit the dirt type bike.

Ive got a set of 16" GPZ250 ninja wheels with brakes here. Got em for $50. Going to put them on the DT200R.

If you want 17's you need to go a bit newer then the old ninja i got mine from.

Definately a better selection of tyre with the 17" wheels. Obvioulsy if your wanting to motard a 490 your going to want to go fast.
18" tyres will tend to be higher in profile than 17's, Also if you stick with the 18" rim on the bike and then another rear rim laced to a front hub you are a bit restricted with the tyre width.
Road tyres dont have knobs so you could take them out as wide as the swingarm.

How much money have you got to throw at it and whats your front end off???
Theres a guy on eBay in the UK selling wheel sets. Might be easier to get in touch with him and buy a new set. Whinge a bit about the shipping, he gets them made in Thailand of something so it should be cheaper than the $200 or so quoted.

Do you have a link Bob ?
I used to do a fair number of wheel swaps in the past but they got too pricey for most people.

Here is his shop Dave.

http://sto...QQ_armrsZ1

It was only that one set of wheels that were 99 quid, the rest are 249 or so.

Be mindfull that just because he says it will fit does not mean it will. The WR200 used a different wheel to the 250 and the 500. He has some DT125R wheels listed saying they will fit a YZ from 92-98. That is not true. From 92 YZ's had a bigger front axle and the hub is offset totally different. From 92 on YZ wheel had a different bolt pattern for the disc.

89-90 YZ wheels will not work in a DT either without custom spacers, ive worked that much out but i have not measured the actual centering alignment of the rim.

You could probalby swap the wheels around but it would involve some work.

So if you were to set up motard wheels for whatever (like the 490 in this thead) it would pay to get a set of the wheels you want to use the hubs from and get all that sorted with spacers and alignment and what not before buying custom or flash wheels.

On a side note, i did see a DT200R on eBay ages back that had GPX250 wheels on it. The back one was that far out of whack it wasnt funny. Looked terrible from the rear and i doubt it would have rode too good. Its all bout doing the sums and making it work.
Need a big lathe like ive got here, i probably should get it together and fired up one of these days, then i can modify some bike wheels and cush drives.

Cheers, Bob.

Dyna, love to see and hear how you go. I also have a disc front setup for my 490 and was looking at doing something with road tyres if not a full motard style. Peter.
