cleaning my gt80 barrel and head

I need some help cleaning my gt80 barrel the head was soda blasted and came up well so was the barrel but still has black rubbish stuck on now the head and barrel are off and im going to put bearings in i need to get the barrel looking nice what should i do. do I sand the fins get some degreaser drop it in caustic set it on fire i have no idea i need it to look good or it will ruin the bike thanks Michael. :)

your GT barrel is cast iron isn't it? 

I soak most my parts in degreaser.. be careful!!! fresh degreaser is strong.. check regularly to see what it's doing. tooth brush, dish brush and a scrub.

alloy and degreaser you have to keep an eye on though... you can keep nuts and bolts in it indefinitely though best thing for degreaser is a mesh container (think fish and chip shop's deep fryer) in a tub...

i am not 100 percent sure what the barrel is i assume cast iron aslong as nothing will wreck the bore i will try it thanks Michael. :)
