IT250 misses gears

I have a IT250. It misses gears occosionally. What might be the cause???

selector forks worn, or the engagement dogs on the gears are worn.

I'm new to old 2 strokes. Does that type of problem take a lot of work and/or know how ???/

Is your chain correctly adjusted?

Too much slack can cause occasional missed gears.

On the other hand, don't over tighten it!...?. Refer to your manual.

Otherwise, what Leslie said.

What model IT250 do you have?

     Maybe a problem with your shifter detent?  On the '78 I think it's a spring and plunger arrangement--maybe a weak or collapsed spring?

I forgot to mention that it when it happens it's when going from 1st to 2nd ????

I get that sometimes.
I put it down to operator error.
Needs a firm foot.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
