Over the next few weeks or possibly years I will document the thrilling conversion from a paltry 6v to the astounding 12v.
Expect mega volts, amps and watts and possibly a bit of fire as well !..... Or more likely, not.

Some of the stuff I am using:

Cheers,

Dave R.

One of the things we need to do is get the flywheel off the crankshaft.

This one was a bit stubborn, as it had never been removed before. However, one of the IT Facebook groups has some invaluable advice which I cheerfully tried:

No luck, more leverage required:

Okay, that was clearly a failure, let's try something more professional:

The slow moving .45 230g projectile failed to do the job, perhaps a sustained burst of 9mm will do the work required:

Not happening..... As a last resort, I used an M27x1 L/H thread flywheel removing tool and funnily enough, it did the job:

All the nuts, bolts and washers were tossed into a tub and allowed to mix freely with UNF, UNC, Whitworth and BA alternatives:

Cheers,

Dave R.

Next, I had fun unplugging the stator wires from the loom:

The PVC insulation covers had welded themselves together sometime over the past 37 years and the connectors were a real bear to separate.
Some remedial repairs needed.

Cheers,

Dave R.

The stator plate surrendered after being poked with a blunt knife:

The screwdriver blade points to the earth tag of the lighting coil:

The M4x30 screw was a pain to remove. Some alloy came out with the fastener so the female thread will need a bit of work #cheesealloy:

Take your 1950's ex MOD wire cutters and remove the tag:

Cheers,

Dave R.

Find some insulated wire and push it cheerfully down the black PVC sheath:

The black rubber grommet that seals on the flywheel cover had a blanked off position for the wire to pass through:

Clamp the additional wire using the original bracketry:

I found some black glassfibre heat resisting tube on an old kettle in the scrap skip at work to copy what Yamaha did with the other wires from the other coils:

?? Now to find the soldering iron!

Cheers,

Dave R.
