DT200WR in the UK
« on: February 21, 2019, 11:53:46 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I recently joined this forum and put a post up in the WR200 forum and have had limited replies and not much "chatting" about the bike - this could also be linked to my post of course!

Admission moment here - I never even noticed that there was a DT section on this site with a healthy post count about 200cc models so I'm hoping that here is where I can get lots of help and info on my 200wr.

I'm reasonably sure that based on some other posts I've read on here that Yamaha sold the various DT models around the world in different ways with some countries getting them and others not. In the UK we got the DT125LC and DT125R, but did not get either the 200R or 200WR with any "decent" two stroke trail bikes being brought in as grey imports including the TS200R, KDX-SR, DT-WR etc. I've owned loads of 125R's over the years, a CRM250 and another 200wr that I regretted selling as soon as I'd shifted it :(

Anyways I've got a very tired DT I'm getting on the road for now with longer term plans to get fully refreshed and back on the road for 2020 as a supermoto using either DT125X or WR125X wheels as these can be picked up a lot cheaper than having custom wheels built and except for the front calliper mount go pretty much straight in.

If anyone has any examples of their DT based SM's I'd love to see / hear about them and also from any other DT-WR owners around the world as they are very rare here in the UK with the CRM250 being the grey import trail bike of choice for many.

Cheers - Ben (Nottingham)

Obviously posting about a 200WR in the DT200 section was as successful as posting about a DT200WR in the WR section of this forum :(

...... Bearing in mind that this is the Aussie IT forum, you are going to find that the 200WR is a bit 'Specialist Interest'!

Most in common with a wr200. I have a Dt200r and wr200. The wr is currently disembodied. Lately I'm thinking I should turn it is a dt200wr.
Dual sports are awesome. I can't provide any sm info though
I'm from Canada eh.

Probably my mistake then tbh as I'd imagined that the baby WR would be more popular in Oz than here in the UK and also that "Oceana" in general got more of the niche Japanese bikes than ever made it to Europe.

I tried to post up some pictures but they are too high quality for this site, but I'm almost ready for the bike to go back on the road as a trail bike for this season before a full tear down over the winter for the sumo conversion.

The DT125X headlight has gone on along with the YZ front mud guard but this required substantial trimming as the WR guard drops away much more sharply than the YZ does - guessing the MX bike has a much longer trail than the road going endure = ??

Hi there Nottsbiker. Well, DT200WR is a japanese market only model. It is a sibling to WR200 with some differences as can be found on the forum. As far as I know, it has never been officially exported, it was a grey market bike in whichever market it made its appearance. In fact the only japanese only model to have been exported as is was the CRM250R/AR in France. All other models like the KDX SRs, RMX Ss have always been grey market imports. Here in Greece the DT200WR was very successful and thus there are still some being used, some of them turned into SMs.  Most have been on new rims matched to the genuine hubs. I don;t know if the DT125X or the WR125X genuine fit as they sold next to none in Greece. What I can do is try to fit a DT200R rear wheel in my DT200WR and see if they are compatible. I know for a fact that DT125R and DT200R wheels are interchangeable although the 200R rims are aluminium alloy whereas the official import 125R were steel. If they fit then chances are you can fit the X model wheels to your DT200WR. Don't know when I'll get to doing that it's something I can do.

    Cheers, fanis

PS: I'll go through some greek sites and post some photos of SM'ed DT200WRs. When? I can't be sure mate!

Hi Enduras!

Thanks for your input - I have seen quite a few 200WR related posts and items for sale via ebay when I have been searching for parts and information.

Regarding the wheels I'm told that the rear wheels from either the DT125X or WR125X fit straight in with no modifications but that the front requires some adaptations including a bracket making that relocates the brake calliper.

I also have a Belgarda TDR125 which I'm going to try the wheels in the DT-WR to see how they fit. Unfortunately the front wheel is an 18 inch not a 17 so I really want to see how the hub fits in as it runs a nice 320mm Brembo floating disc (the same as my Ducati 900 Monster).

Anything you can help with is great :)

Ben

Hey guys, just picked this thread up late, DT200R rear wheels will fit a DT200WR (1.85) & WR200R. (1.85) & even DT230 Lanza. (2.15). Wide. As I have all 3 as spares for my 2001 road legal WR200.

Good info  :) Do you know if there are any front wheels that interchange with the WR from other bikes?
