The bike is slowly coming together good things take time. The biggest hold up was I decided to buy parts locally and the Yamaha shop said yes 3-5 days. I also ordered other parts from the US and Aussie those parts arrived in 5-7 days and the local parts took 4 weeks! That meant I missed the slot to get my motor rebuilt and was delayed another month!

New seat cover and handle bar cover from Muzz has gone on. New foot pegs are on and a new set of fork guards turned up on the weekend as well.

All going well It should be running by the end of the month.

My little brother is a graphic designer so I have him onto making me up some stickers for it as well on the cheap (load of firewood) :)

Well I finally got the bottom end back after being fully rebuilt and gearbox / clutch all checked over. Put it back together and it fired up on about the 8th kick.

Went for a ride today for about 30 minutes to run it in with 20:1 oil mix as the crank and big end bearing had been replaced as well.

Felt good to ride a 500 again cant wait to start opening it up on the next few rides 8)

I have some new side panels and rear mudguard arriving soon and will put the sticker kit on then as well.

Very nice! Love these bikes. We actually have it pretty good. 12 year run on similar models sure makes it easier to locate parts..

Well the bike is run in now and I have taken it for a good run up the hill behind the house. It is still running rich top end so will look at a tweaking the carb until I get a Lectron carb in a month or so.
Sticker are all on as well as new plastics so it was looking pretty good until I rode it in the mud! That's what it is for :D

Well it has been a while since I last up dated and I have put a Lectron carb on the bike now as I couldn't be bothered trying to change jets and also I will be riding a lot of trails that will start at 300m above sea level and go up to 1400m +. The Lectron has made it very responsive right from when you turn the throttle to full rpm! It still has the 2 stroke kick when it hits power band as well ;D
The only thing that hasn't change it starting it as it is a real Bi#@h to start! My old WR500 I had that down to a fine art first kick nearly every time. The only difference I can think of it has boysen reeds in it so I have ordered a set of Yamaha reeds from the USA and they should be here in a week or so.

The other thing I have done is got a new chain and 4 sprocket to try different ratios. 14,15 and 46,50 that give me a few ratios to play with.

14/50 = 3.571
15/50 = 3.333 (on the bike now)
14/46 = 3.286
15/46 = 3.067

Will keep you posted
