Also it's a good idea to smear a little grease between the double lip seals, helps keep them lubricated.

I have had them fold over when I pushed the gear on the shaft. Not good

Is there anything I can do to make sure that the gear doesn?t do that? I think I read somewhere about putting the gear in and then sliding the key in, but idk how that would work out.

I will use some grease for sure! My expertise level is low! I ordered 2 seals just in case! Might buy the whole world supply of IT 200 crank seals, but I will eventually learn! Lol
