IT 490 stock speedo fitment
« on: October 15, 2018, 01:14:02 AM »
Hi , New post here, can anyone let me know what part number I need for a 1983 speedometer as I would like to find one for when I stick the bike on the road.
Prefer miles but kilometres is ok.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Timit.

Is your bike a US model? If so the trip meter bracket is too small to fit an IT speedo as far as I remember.

This is a link to the introduction page : http://www.yamahait.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,1.1330.html
It is a good place to say hello and perhaps post a couple of photos of your IT490.

Cheers,

Dave R.

I used a basic 'Trail Tech' item on my IT200S.

I have converted my 490 headlight/speedo mount to take a speedo from an XT250, when I get a chance I will post some photo's up of how I did it.

Where abouts in the world are you Timit?

Hi Nigel,

I'm in the process of rebuilding an '82 IT250 and want to put a similar speedometer onto the tripmeter mount. Do you have any pics of how you mounted yours?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike, here is how I did it.
I removed the original trip meter mount and then made a paper template to get the shape and height. The height was quite critical to get it to sit nicely behind the headlight shroud and also be able to see it when on the bike. I used the XT speedo mount, ground off the lugs, used a bit of filler to get the shape right, repainted and bolted it to my new mount, then used the original pins/R clips to secure. I hope the pictures make it a bit clearer.
