Big Kawasaki

My son Jim recently completed a rebuild restoration of his 1987 KX500.   He brought it over to my place to run in on my paddock track.
I got my YZ465 out and we rode till dark, swapping bikes for a comparison.

The result is that my YZ now feels like an old tractor to ride... the KX is incredibly smooth and insanely powerful... It felt like a moments inattention with throttle control could result in all sorts of trouble,    but it was great fun to ride and a credit to Jim for making a great job of it, considering it is a very rare model and parts are not easy to find.  The rebuild took 4 years and nothing was spared.

Sorry about the grainy shot but as I mentioned we just kept riding until it got too dark... then some beers were opened in celebration...
Jim will be riding this bike in natural terrain mx events held locally by the Rodney Motorcycle club which feature a pre '96 VMX class and other events as appropriate.

Cheers Bruce, yes he has had a lot of work done on the truck already.  Lucky for him his partner's Dad has restored several old Chevy's and has jumped on board to help out with the project with great enthusiasm.  I can't wait to see it. I remember driving that truck back in the early 90's when it belonged to my (then) father inlaw.
