Different Stators / Rotors on IT125
« on: April 17, 2017, 03:22:45 AM »
Im rebuilding a 1980  it125 out of 2 bikes i have but they have different stator assemblies..

This one looks like the normal setup Ive seen on IT's

The second one looks different than what ive seen on these 125 and 175 engines..

any info to what that is?   did they change the 125's  or is that from a different engine like a yz ?

thanks

The first one looks like the right configuration for an IT125.  The second one might be a TZ125, which I believe uses a rotor instead of a flywheel.  What are the numbers stamped into the crankcase?

What are the engine numbers?
What are you going to use the bike for? Do you need lights?

Based on what I'm seeing, it looks like both engines should have a flywheel.

Both engines are IT125.
If you need lights then use the flywheel.
What CDI boxes do you have?

Just a comment on the differences, the rotor setup doesn't provide much "flywheel" effect and will diminish the torque down low.  I have a YZ100 that had a flywheel that I converted back to a rotor and it really killed the bottom end, trade off is it seems to rev up quicker now.
