Newbie with 1983 IT125
« on: January 20, 2017, 07:41:01 AM »
Hi

Been lurking for a while but finally got my hands on a friends bike I knew about years ago but never saw. He bought it in the late 80s, and it was last on the road in 1991. Its quite a rare bike in the UK, Ive never seen another.

Not sure whether to do a full resto on it or just a tidy up with a few new bits and get it on the road this summer to see what Ive got. Not had it running yet but cant beleive how light it is compared with my dt125mx and my dt125lc.

Ill looking out for a few pointers and spares advice. Ill be needing a back box, seat cover, gaiters, tyres, tank resto/cover at a minimum.

Cheers
Wayne

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

Nice Bike Wayne

Have a soft spot for the 125, that looks in pretty good nick.

Welcome , much better to be part of than lurking in the shadows, you can get arrested for that in some places. ;)

Thanks for the welcome guys, im made up to finally get hold of the bike, im itching to get it running.

Think my mrs took pity and let me fetch it in the house just to get some pics, thats the last time it will cross the threshold!

How do i get hold of a jack up kit and has anyone had much success getting rid of the greeness on the tank?, seen some you tube vids but cant see much about on here.

Wayne,  I can help with the suspension mods, but I'm in NZ until mid February.
Where abouts are you in the UK ?

Cheers,

Thanks dave, that would be great, its been off the road for 26 years so i dont think a few more months will make much difference! I live in north wales.

Im 6ft and the bike feels a bit small, id like to get it near the size of an early yz125 i used to look after back in the day.
