1977 DT 250 vs 1979 DT 250
« on: May 23, 2016, 04:25:45 AM »
I have found a 1977 DT 250 and a 1979 DT 250 for sale.  Both are in good condition the asking price for the '79 is more, but is there really much difference between the 2.  Or is it the same bike just different cosmetics.  Thank you for your help I'm new to the old DT's.

The DT250 D is different in a number of respects to the DT250 F. They do share parts but from my experience and cost the front end - triple tree is much stronger and the forks are leading axle jobs made by KYB so a lot better that the spindly things on the D model. The fuel tank is different to accommodate the different forks and triple tree, and attachment point goes from a twin setup on the D model to a single damper and plug. The D model is 6 volt with points ignition - I haven't ventured far with motors but suspect the F model may be CDI and 12 volt...
Go the F model.
