It's starting on 1 kick now there was a lot of oil in the bottom end from trying to start with the bad CDI, now you could weld weld the sucker.. :D

I gotta admit that I was starting to get worried at the length of the video at about the 1 minute mark.

Then she fired and things started falling off.

Well interested in a ride report as it sounds like a ripper.

Also be interested in what your electronics mate did to the dud CDI.

Fred

We tried to start it 2 weeks ago with when the CDI had problems there was a lot of fuel/oil in the bottom cases it cleared after a few kicks.

Things falling off was the lower chain roller I made a bracket for a kick ( It's a YZ chassis ) stand that's held on by the lower roller bolt no big deal..

On the CDI Bill found a few problems & change some old tech to 2015..

We talked about building new CDIs with new Tech he said there's a lot of room for improvement over the 30yr + old CDI that is getting weaker the more it's used..

Yes, nowadays, you could do a direct replica with a microcontroller, some signal conditioning and a couple of output devices I reckon and you would never see the complexity as it would be in programming, not hardware.

This has got me thinking about CDIs Al. Been doing a bit of reading and Chinese pit bike CDi units can be had for $15 or cheaper. 5 pin would suit most of my needs currently, so I might have a bit of a fiddle with this in the coming weeks.

The problem is the 250H & J uses 4 inputs/charging coils & a pulse for the Ign advance circuity in the CDI. I  don't know why Yamaha did this does the H & J make more power? Was this a test mule for something down the road?

Notice the harness on the CDI 7 wires..
