Took the IT's out for a blast over the long weekend.

First real ride since putting it back together and there are some more adjusments required and some bolts that will need replacing after going missing in action!  ;D.

Cheers

Looks like fun.

Sem-permanent thread locker aka loctite will be your friend with these old beast.

A lot of worn threads from years of use!

Been working on the 175 and making sure that all is good, with lock tight applied to bolts etc and getting to the little bits like the ignition switch, front / rear brake switches and the fuel tap to work as intended and reliably.

Front and rear brake lights are all setup, just need to put some fuel in the tanks and start her up and give it a test, but should be good to go in that department. Had to get an after market rear brake light switch and modify the spring so that it would work correctly. Purchase original perches and front brake light switch and installed.

Next is the ignition switch. It was not stopping the motor when turning off, or stopping the engine from being started when turned off. Pulled it apart, and it all appears to be there, but have noticed that the key and the barrel are pretty worn and in some need of attention. Going to check to see if keys are still available from Yamaha and if so off to the lock smith to get it sorted. I do know that there are keys available to suit the lock as I have had the 465 switch repaired, just not like the original.

Next on the list is the fuel tap. I wanted to making sure that it is working as it should be and when I pulling it out of the tank, noticed that the reserve filter tube that protrudes into the tank, was not there and was blocked. I happen to have a couple of spare taps to work with and have found one that should be ok. The tap didn't have the filter that sits in the fuel tap bowl either, are these still available? Will be in touch with Yamaha on this item too, not too sure of how successful I will be but worth a try.

Old tap

Fuel tap componnets

Bit of junk in the fuel tap bowl

Fuel Tap filter - are these still available?

And why not one of the bike!

New fuel tap bowl seal, tap o ring replaced and new filter mesh installed, Tap switches to off, on and reserve nice and smooth now. Also the reserve works as well! And even better it doesn't leak, bonus!

View of the new seal and fuel filter mesh.
