DT230 Supermoto
« on: October 30, 2014, 02:38:22 PM »
Got me some Supermoto wheels from the UK off a 2005 DT125X. Pretty good nick, rear wheel has deanodized a bit, probably from some heavy duty degreaser.

Initial fitment reveals rear wheel is an exact fit, same axle, same bearings, same everything but in a 140/70-17 rim...ooohhhhh should be able to fit a fat one on that.

Front wheel and brake disc also good. Needs different spacers and a caliper extender to accommodate that massive disc.

Time is not my friend and it turned out to be too much friggn around to get spacers and caliper bracket made to fit the DT125X front wheel to DT230 forks so I checked measurements of DT125X forks...same diameter, just 20mm shorter. So off to ebay UK I go to get me a set of DT125X forks, front brake master cylinder, axle and spacers.

Makes for some stoppy good fun...

Had my DT230 Supermoto parked next to my XT660R and realised the DT125X hub is the same as the XT660R

So I tried it on and it's a straight fit, no mods needed, same axle, same spacers...aww crap, I'm gunna have to get another wheel for the DT230

Found a wheel with 160 tyre from ebay UK off XT660X to go on rear of XT660R

Again no mods, slipped straight in How's that for a fat ferker?

Soooo...supermoto wheels sorted for XT660R, back to the DT230. I had an old Purple front wheel from a TTR250 lying around and remembered they were similar, so measured and...hey presto, they be the same.

Got an Excel rim laced up to it by Ash's Spoked Wheels in Brisbane and she be ready to go. Only problem is it doesn't do stoppy's like it did with the DT125X front wheel...bugger.

Cheers
Robo

Amazing what compatibility can be found when you have the means to do it.
