YZ 465 and 490 frames???
« on: April 19, 2014, 06:17:00 AM »
Are the 465 and 490J frames the same I've got a line on some 465 parts including frame but want to build a 490J.Will the swing arm and shock swop directly between the two, also do the seat/tank and plastics interchange?? May be a daft question but frame diagram on partzilla seem awfully similar between the two.

Cheers Craig

With the different rear suspension between the 465 and 490 , I doubt much would interchange with shock and swing arm .

Thanks Rosey, been doing some research over here and it seems that the 465 swing arm will bolt up to the 490J only,It seems to be a straightforward shop they have/had to do over here to make the 490J eligible for twinshock racing. From what I understand you have to modify or change the 490 airbox cos the 465 swingarm will hit it and change the shock spring from or to a rising rate spring,I'm not sure on that yet ::).
I've bought the 465 parts anyway cos they were cheap, freshly done frame, swinger and shock, triples, tank and seat and 465 bottom end and other pieces for a few hundred quid.
So next project is lined some sort of G/H YZ 465 in the making and for sure another load of stupid questions that I'll be asking :P :P

There is a few pictures out there with the YZ465 swing arms on the YZ490J frame. I was also told it was done to race the yz490 in the vintage class. I have a YZ465G and a YZ490J. The YZ465G feels a lot lighter than the YZ490J. I haven't tried it yet, but I think you can swap the seats and tanks around. My YZ490 parts bike came with a YZ465 seat, but the tank, was missing, so I don't know how it would look or fit.
