Going by that the 29v says that my bike is a 1984 model yet the tag is stamped 4/85. Yet to have some one explain it to me.

I think we have covered this on another topic somewhere.

The stamped chassis number on the headstock will give an accurate (ish ) indication of manufacture date in Japan, however what Yamaha Oz did to ensure good stock rotation is unclear as we have seen dates vary quite considerably when compared to the chassis number.

I suggest that your bike was made in 1984, however it was distributed to a dealer by the the Oz importers April 1985.

Hi Dave,
Your info is the best I have seen anywhere but I have a strange one.

I have an IT200? with front disc brake.
My Serial Number is 49T 007 ... which would indicate an IT200S 1986 Oceania but the compliance plate reads year 11/85.
How can the compliance plate date be earlier than model date. Is this possible e.g. - called an 86 S model but actually released in late 85?

Thanks for your info.  ;D

It's common for the next year models to start being sold late in the year. I have an RD250LC complianced 10/1980.

IT200S   1986   1VH   BELGIUM FRANCE   49U-004101
I have a IT200S 1VH that is sold as new in the country I live in, Finland, I found there is 2 versions of the 1VH, the France that is a 261VH-351F1, and the Eureopean that is a 261VH-300E1. I dont know what difference they have, mine thro had a yellow bulb in the headlight, a thing that Frence cars used to have. Anyway, mine had the typical DT style headlight surroundning even they have a diffrent (smaller) lens. Mine is issued 1987, but thats nothing extra, just selling what in stock as long they last, I think the last IT200 was sold in 1989 or 1990 here. Basically there are dual sport equpted from factory, even brake light works from the front brake!

As i?m trying to find a frame for my 465 so I can get it plated, I found one I might can buy....have to see...anyway its frame number starts 5L4...so I digged a bit deeper, as I can, and found that for 1981 the 4V5 was approaved here here in north Europe, Scandinavia, at least Finland, but late 1981 the 5L4 was approved as the official model, so the Ocean model was officially sold in 1982 by Yamahas official importer in north Europe! Quit interesting I find, probarly becorse of some demand witch made the Ocea model easier to pass the type approvment of the time. This was time before EU, and therefore I know Finland had strict laws. Every model had to be approved before selling begun back then.
